The purpose of this study was to present the applicability in Korea by translating the Safety Assessment Scale (SAS), which can evaluate various safety factors of the elderly with dementia or cognitive impairment, into Korean, and by examining the validity and reliability of the Korean version. The developer's consent was obtained to translate the SAS into Korean. The Korean version of Safety Assessment Scale (K-SAS) was completed through the procedure of translation and expert group review, and reverse translation and expert group review. Next, the content validity of K-SAS was verified for 12 occupational therapists, and internal consistency and test-retest reliability of K-SAS were verified for 30 community-dwelling elderly peoples with dementia or cognitive impairment. The Content Validity Index (CVI) of K-SAS was calculated as .93. In the case of internal consistency, Cronbach's ¥á value for all items was calculated as .985, and Cronbach's ¥á value for each item was calculated as .759 to .954. The test-retest reliability for the total score of K-SAS was calculated as .973 (p<.01).
K-SAS is a tool that can evaluate the safety of the elderly with dementia or cognitive impairment in Korea, and through this study, a high level of validity and reliability were confirmed. In the future, we hope that K-SAS will be used when conducting an evaluation for the establishment of client-centered interventions in the community.
